General Questions

What is the fabric composition of your suits?

The suits are made of Amni Soul, the softest, most buttery-smooth fabric on the swimwear market. Amni Soul is a polyamide and spandex blend meaning that it is biodegradable in landfills. The mirage shorts have a liner that is 100% polyamide.

Where are your suits manufactured and what are the manufacturing conditions?

The suits are manufactured in Brazil by a family business. They adhere to strict Brazilian tax and labor laws, which means that they will never employ child labour and must provide 30 days of annual leave for all employees. In the future, we would love to manufacture in Canada, however at the moment, the biodegradable technology we were in search of was not available locally.

Why are your prices in USD when you are a Canadian business?

Trust us, we think this is weird too... but it is just the recommended way for Shopify to display. With that said, you are able to change the currency (and language) in the top right and bottom left of each page.

I made a mistake! Can I change my order?

Please do not submit an order until you are absolutely certain that is is what you want. Due to our expedited dispatch system it is very unlikely that changes can be made after an order has been submitted, but please send an email asap to info@syncorswim.ca and we will attempt to rectify your order.

What sizes do you offer? Why don't you offer more sizes? Will there be more sizes available in the future?

We currently offer sizes XS, S, M, L, and XL for our bikinis and one-pieces, sizes S, M, L, and XL for shorts, and sizes XS/S and M/L for cover up skirts. To be perfectly candid, it is very expensive to produce multiple sizes and as much as we want to ensure that there is something for everyone, it is impossible at this stage of production, and not a sustainable choice for a small business in their first launch. In the majority of first launches that we've seen, businesses limit themselves to standard sizes, S-L, and we are proud to have been able to do more than that. Even for our cover up skirts, which were recommended to us as a "one-size-fits-all" style, we didn't want anyone to be limited and therefore created two sizes. If Sync or Swim continues to grow, we will expand our sizing accordingly.

The inner label of my suits are wearing away. Is this normal?

Yes, this is absolutely normal! Design-wise, we would have preferred not to have a tag at all. However, Brazilian export laws require that all manufactured products be clearly labelled with composition. Left with the options of pressed label (the one on your suit) or an actual tag (who wants that sticking out or scratching against you?) we chose an option that would disintegrate within a few solid washes and not leave any lasting impact on your suit.

What are you doing to be more sustainable?

Sync or Swim was founded with sustainability at the forefront of our intentions. This is more expensive and time-consuming than producing anything without sustainability in mind. Here are three ways that we are actively trying to be as sustainable as possible:

  1. Material Research: We are constantly reviewing the newest research on sustainable materials. Our suits are made from Amni Soul which, unlike other materials, will break down within five years of being in a landfill. Our hair claws are made of bio-acetate, the leading plant-based material for accessories. Unlike plastics, bio-acetate can biodegrade if discarded correctly.
  2. Packaging: We use recycled and recyclable poly mailers. Other brands that are trying to be on the forefront of sustainability may tell you that biodegradable poly mailers are the way of the future, and you would think that they would be, however for the most part, they are made with polyethylene and microplastics that are not recyclable and unfortunately usually end up in landfills where they release dangerous methane emissions as they degrade. The only plastic used in our production at all is that which the suits are mailed to us in. This is a standard of our manufacturing that we are unable to alter. For this reason, as we do not want to contribute to further plastic waste, we do not repackage our pieces into mailer bags. It is our hope to eliminate this in the future.
  3. Design: Our suits are not designed to be worn a few times and discarded. Instead, they are staple pieces that can be worn year after year, regifted, and worn some more. It is not our intention to contribute to fast fashion.
